According to Wikipedia, Physical Therapy is defined as follows:

Physical therapy (often abbreviated to PT) is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty that, by using mechanical force and movements, remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention.

In addition to clinical practice, other activities encompassed in the physical therapy profession include research, education, consultation, and administration. Physical therapy services may be provided alongside, or in conjunction with, other medical services.

It is commonly assumed that occupational therapy is very similar to physical therapy, with the primary difference being that occupational therapy focuses on the upper part of the body (above the torso), while Physical Therapy focuses on the lower half (below the torso).

This is partially true. The full definition of Occupational Therapy according to Wikipedia is as follows:

Occupational therapy (OT) is the use of assessment and treatment to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living and work skills of people with a physical, mental, or cognitive disorder. Occupational therapists also focus much of their work on identifying and eliminating environmental barriers to independence and participation in daily activities. Occupational therapy is a client-centered practice that places emphasis on the progress towards the client’s goals. Occupational therapy interventions focus on adapting the environment, modifying the task, teaching the skill, and educating the client/family in order to increase participation in and performance of daily activities, particularly those that are meaningful to the client. Occupational therapists often work closely with professionals in physical therapy, speech therapy, nursing, social work, and the community.

EGAN Healthcare’s physical therapy program includes strengthening exercise, balancing exercise, and activities that improve endurance.

One of our company goals is to educate the patient and the family of the patient in assisting their loved one in becoming fully independent to the greatest extent possible.

The occupational therapy program includes the strengthening of muscles, improving of range-of-motion, as well as exercises designed to help improve coordination. EGAN Healthcare additionally focuses on areas of relearning how to perform activities of everyday living (when Occupational Therapyapplicable/appropriate).

A major part of our Physical Therapists’ and Occupational Therapists’ job is to teach the patient how to do all of the exercises, stretches and activities our PTs and OTs will perform in the home. Our goal in this is to ensure that our company is not performing any work in excess of that which is necessary to ensure the patient’s optimal health, recovery and/or rehabilitation. By teaching the patients and their families/caregivers, we can ensure optimal results with the minimum number of visits necessary to ensure said results.

EGAN also offers elite-quality speech therapy services in addition to our PT and OT programs.
